About Us

Home of the Northwest Track & Field Classic

Since 1976, Jesse’s vision has ignited speed and spirit—launching the Miami Northwest Express Track Club and the iconic Northwest Track and Field Classic, a legacy that continues to shape future stars.

Our Story Begins In 1976

Jesse Holt – Founder, Mentor, Visionary

In 1976, Jesse Holt founded the Miami Northwest Express Track Club and the Northwest Track and Field Classic—two institutions that shaped generations of athletes and transformed lives across South Florida and beyond.

What began as a grassroots effort to empower youth through sport grew into a nationally recognized program with over 250 active members, ages 5 through college, representing vibrant communities including Overtown, Liberty City, Opa-locka, Miami Gardens, and Miramar. Under Holt’s leadership, the club became a beacon of opportunity, discipline, and excellence.

Each year, the Northwest Track and Field Classic drew more than 3,000 athletes—from age 5 to 80—who traveled from across North America, Canada, and the Caribbean to compete in Miami. It was more than a meet—it became a movement that celebrated athleticism, unity, and legacy.

Holt’s impact reached the global stage in 2008 when he traveled to Beijing to support two of his athletes, Tiffany Ross Williams and Bershawn “Batman” Jackson, as they competed in the Olympic Games. Jackson, who earned a bronze medal in the 400-meter hurdles, sponsored Holt’s journey alongside his son Reggie—a powerful gesture of gratitude and respect.

Beyond the track, Holt’s commitment to youth development extended internationally. In 1982, he coordinated the U.S.–West Germany Cultural Exchange Project, providing 23 young people with a life-changing global experience.

Jesse Holt Jr.’s Vision Lives On Through His Sons … Alan, Reggie, Darren  and lifetime friend Paul Lester, esq.

Jesse Holt Jr., founder of the Miami Northwest Express Track Club and the Northwest Track and Field Classic, passed away on October 16 at age 73. A visionary and tireless advocate for youth, he dedicated his life to empowering generations through sport, mentorship, and opportunity.

His legacy lives on through his sons—Alan, Reggie, and Darren—who now lead the club and classic with the same passion and purpose that defined their father’s life’s work. Together, they continue to uplift young athletes and strengthen the communities he loved.

Since 1981, Mr. Lester has served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Miami Northwest Express Track Club, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization which has won numerous National Youth Age Group Track and Field Championships. We have also had three of our alumni members compete on the world stage as Olympians: Bershawn (Batman) Jackson and Tiffany Ross-Williams in Beijing (2008), and Lloydricia Cameron in Tokyo (2020) and Paris (2024).

To honor Jesse Holt Jr.’s enduring impact, the Holt family established the Jesse Holt Invitational—a premier event that brings communities together and celebrates the transformative power of sport.

Our Mission: Past, Present, and Future

For decades, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to transforming lives through sport, education, and mentorship. Our journey began with a simple but powerful goal: to create a safe, nurturing space where young people could thrive.

In the past, we worked tirelessly to:

  • Keep kids off the streets and engaged in meaningful learning environments
  • Promote physical fitness as a foundation for strong bodies and focused minds
  • Offer coaching, mentoring, and academic support to redirect negative behavior and foster excellence in school, family, and life
  • Provide peace of mind to children and families facing hardship
  • Use track and field as a gateway to opportunity, exposure, and personal growth

Today, we continue to build on that legacy—empowering youth through structured programs, competitive athletics, and holistic support systems that meet the evolving needs of our communities.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to expanding our reach, deepening our impact, and ensuring that every child—regardless of background—has access to the tools, guidance, and inspiration needed to succeed. Through innovation, collaboration, and unwavering belief in the power of sport, we will continue to open doors and change lives.
