Discover Your Power Through Track & Field Coaching
“We develop youth, build character, and shape leaders—one season, one stride, one victory at a time!”
Jesse Holt Jr., 73, a Pioneer of Speed and Spirit, Passed Away
Founder of the Miami Northwest Express Track Club and the Northwest Track & Field Classic, Jesse Holt Jr. passed on October 16, 2016. Revered as a father figure to countless youth, Holt nurtured generations with the same care he gave his own.
A trailblazer in athletics, Holt broke barriers in 1960 as the first African American to compete in age-group track events against white athletes in South Florida. A year later, he became the first Black athlete named to the All-Dade County High School Track Team, earning recognition as one of the fastest runners in the world with a 9.5-second 100-yard dash.
He earned a scholarship to Grambling State University, racing alongside legends like Bob Hayes and Jim Hines, and competed in the 1964 Olympic Trials. After graduating in 1965, Holt played professional football for the Oakland Raiders and Boston Patriots.
Jesse Holt Jr.’s Legacy Endures Beyond the Track
Jesse Holt Jr. is survived by his devoted wife, Claudette Holt; his sons, Alan, Reggie, Darren, and daughter Neff; and a loving circle of grandchildren. His legacy lives on not only through his family, but in every runner he mentored, every barrier he shattered, and every life he uplifted—one stride at a time.
